In preparation for my Grand Canyon hike coming up in May, I decided to do a big loop hike in the Superstitions. I got somewhat of a late start at the trailhead (about 10:20am) and knew that I would probably be walking back after sunset for part of the hike. I started out on Dutchman’s trail and then like an idiot, I again took the wrong trail (Boulder Canyon), instead of Bull Pass. After wasting about 30 minutes or so with that, I finally continue on to the pass. I then dropped down back to the Dutchman trail and then turned north onto Cavalry Trail, which led through Marsh Valley. A big part of this trail was just along a Creek and required hoping around on rocks and such. I then came back around to Boulder Canyon and followed that up to Second Water Trail and took that back to the car. About halfway along this trail, the sun went down, and I had to do the last part in the dark. It was pretty straight forward, although one part which crossed a wide wash left me a bit concerned for a moment. I got back to the car about 6:40pm (sunset was 5:55pm). The total hike was about 17 miles and look me about 8.5 hours. I feel pretty good today, not really much of any soreness to note. Although one of my toes feels sort of numb when I step on it, but not when I touch it. Kind of strange. Today I’ll be going up to Peter’s place to watch the Superbowl.
