Hiking and Gaming

Friday night I went over to the AZ board gamers group, which I had not done for quite awhile. It was a lot of fun and they were at a new location that was quite nice. I might start going back to that regularly. Saturday we started the next adventure in D&D with my group. It went pretty well, I thought. Then Sunday I went hiking up to Flat Iron, Superstition Wilderness, AZ with Dan. We didn’t go all the way up due to time and the heat was pretty intense. Then I went over to Jessie and Jeff’s for her party. I met some of her neighbors and friends. Friends from Jeff’s work were Paige and Alex, friends from Jessie were Heidi and Ron. Next door neighbor was named Patty and was pretty friendly. Other neighbors and relatives were interesting to talk with as well. Afterwards we played some spades and then some Magic the Gathering.

Camping Trip to Big Lake

Got back from the camping trip on Sunday afternoon. The whole thing required a good bit of effort to organize and buy supplies for. Fortunately, everyone pitched in with that portion of the trip, so that made things go smoother. We had good weather overall, only got rained on for a few hours on Saturday. My dutch oven proved difficult to use again, due to charcoal not really heating up well. We did eventually get things going with it, however, so I was not compelled to throw it away at the end of the trip. Did a few miles of hiking. Jessie cooked up some sweet chili on Friday night and I made a chuck wagon casserole on Saturday night. We did eggs, pancakes, biscuits, and sausage for breakfast. Got in some games of Magic the Gathering and No Thanks on Saturday as well.

D&D Fun Times

So I’ve gotten into play Dungeons and Dragons lately. I bought into the D&D Minis game and also the RPG. I started by going going to David’s D&D RPG game at Game Daze on Wednesdays. I enjoyed the time, but the people in the group there were challenging to play with for a number of reasons. I finally stopped going just this week. I kind of miss it, but I’ve got 2 other games of it started up now. One I am DMing for Max, Pat, Kim, Dan, and Tomas. I am have a great time doing it, its one of the most rewarding game experiences I’ve ever done. Definitely fits my personality of creating, organizing and giving instruction. Then Joe is DMing another game that we’ve met once so far and have another session on Sunday. I’m hopeful that one continues moving along. The D&D Minis game has been a blast as well. A small, but dedicated group meets up at Gamer’s Inn on Thursday night. I’ve had a ton of fun with it so far. Tomorrow is a Heroscape game day, tournament style. That day might be the deciding factor for me on if I keep all of my Heroscape stuff or not. I’ve been toying with the idea of selling some of it off, as I just don’t play it too much any more. I guess I could bring it back into work, but it just seems kind of weak compared to D&D Minis and other games I’ve played. I still love the game and it will always be one of my favorites, but it just doesn’t hold the same appeal for me that it once did. I’ve got my camping trip coming up next weekend as well. I’m looking forward to hanging out with the group that’s going, we should have a fun time. I need to get together some recipes for my Dutch oven.
