Everything worked out for my Grand Canyon rim-to-rim hike earlier this week. I started out from the north rim just before 6:00am and got out on the south rim at about 6:30pm. I started out very good, but for some reason after stopping and guzzling a bunch of lemonade at Phantom Ranch, I felt a little off. The climb out was not too bad, but the last 3 miles I was feeling tired and didn’t want to eat much. Surprisingly I drove back to Phoenix after the hike and did not get tired during my drive until near the end. Otherwise I felt pretty decent after the hike, other than my legs and feet hurting. I took the wrong pair of boots with me as well, the new ones that were not broken in yet, but I did not get any blisters from that mistake. Looking back over my pictures on the trail, I guess a good amount happened. I saw numerous deer. Almost walked into a rattlesnake, then walked around him and got some pictures. Two helicopters landed right next to me on the trail (one in Indian Garden) and then again at the 1.5 mile rest house. At the top I saw this mountain goat who was just walking around the trail with the people. I also saw some rafters on the Colorado river. Oh and they had a heat wave or something, another 109 degree hike out from the bottom. In other news, today is the start of my sabbatical from work. For a month, I won’t have to go into work at all. Pretty nice deal. I plan to attend a local gaming convention, ConSimWorld Expo and then head off to Yellowstone and other areas. I just found out that the temperature up north is still quite cold and of course all the rooms are booked everywhere, and snow seems to still be heavy in areas, so the trip may not be as long as I had thought originally. Also gasoline prices make the cost of travel very expensive.
